I did say a month or so ago that I was planning a Bungee Jump...well, last weekend, at Highland Fling at Killiecrankie the prediction came true as I flew through the air with the greatest of ease and survived. I'd recommend the experience, especially on such a glorious late spring Sunday in May. When Scotland has this weather there really is nowhere else to be; 24c, blue skies, light breeze, no midges to speak of - paradise. Just the kind of day to chuck yourself off a bridge - in complete safety - in case any health & safety zealots are reading this. The boys at HF are a credit to H&S training and we weren't allowed to take even a hankie on the platform in case it fell out of a pocket and crushed some unsuspecting canoeist who happened to be paddling underneath the bridge unaware of what havoc was happening just 132ft above him.
I was allowed to record the event courtesy of my Drift 170HD camera that I held in my hand with a strap wrapped around my wrist. This time H&S wasn't my concern, it was losing the camera in the river if I let go as the plastic clip broke just as I was about to jump. Note to the boys and girls at Drift Innovation - plastic clip for headband is a bit wimpy, needs toughened up! The video is true point-of-view; its the only way to see what its like to be on the end of an elastic band as the bridge gets smaller in the background. Video is first then the stills - which I didn't take as they wouldn't allow me my Canon 5D on the platform - its a bit heavier than a hankie and if it fell 132ft onto the passing canoeist it'd kill him, or at least not make his day.
OK. Bungee Jump; Tick. What's next? Base jumping maybe???
