Sometimes you just happen to be in the right place, at the right time, with the right equipment, pointing in the right direction. This is one of those moments.
The video is about 1 minute long and towards the end watch the guy top-right skiing into the L'Eychauda Drag-Lift from Clot Gauthier. Its a fairly spectacular crash and had the chap gone a few feet further he would have taken a few other people out like skittles and there might have been an exchange of punches. As it was, an apology was offered and accepted and at the same time I managed to switch off the camera with the remote control.
L'Eychauda Drag-Lift was, by a long way, the most vicious of the button-tow lifts in Serre Chevalier. Last year in St. Jean d'Alps I had a number of failures to mount these things which always ended up with me on the floor. I went up this one twice and I managed to stay on but it was a close thing each time. A few people were caught out by the acceleration from the start line and fell off. Getting to the top was worth it though, provided you could get off it without getting your arm pulled off. Your reward was some of the most stunning views across the Alps with the sun behind you. After taking more than a few photos with the Canon 5D getting back down was a challenge. To one side was a mogul Red run and the other a mogul Black run, although the Black had a traverse across to the Clot Gauthier Red run which was part of what is seen in this video.
I've got a lot of hours video to plough through and once I've got some more interesting clips I'll publish them here.
